Northlake Mandeville Rotarians journeyed to Baton Rouge on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, to tour the Advocate/Times Picayune Newspaper production facility.  But first, we joined the Baton Rouge Noon Rotary club for the 2022-2023 Officer Installation at their regular noon meeting.
Following a time of good Rotary fellowship, we travelled across town to the Advocate production facility.  Here, we were hosted by Judi Terzotis, Publisher (shown in middle of second picture).  After Judi gave welcoming remarks and an overview of the company, Kyle Whitfield, VP of Consumer Revenue, and Roger Holmes, General Manager of Production, gave a very informative slide presentation detailing the newspaper's long term strategies and an overview of the production process.  Newsprint comes all the way from Nova Scotia.
After the slide presentation, Roger gave the group a tour of the setup room, the huge printing presses, the collating machines, and the machines that palletize for distribution.  The printing presses can print 75,000 copies per hour, only one hour to print the daily paper for New Orleans.  This leaves time to print over 15 other daily papers, the Wall Street Journal for Louisiana, and numerous weekly papers.
Many thanks to Judi, Roger, and Kyle for an amazing and very informative tour of a great locally owned business which is competing against many online news sources and winning big-time!
