Every fall members of the Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club participate in The Rotary Dictionary Project handing out over 1,500 dictionaries to all 3rd graders and their teachers in local elementary schools.
“A dictionary teaches a child how to approach a problem and use critical thinking skills by sounding out the word and finding it in the dictionary. This simple task gives them a feeling of self-confidence and satisfaction that they cannot get online.”
The Rotary Dictionary Project is a nationwide effort to provide young students with their own personal dictionaries. Members distribute the dictionaries to students.
Rotary members say seeing the joy on the children’s faces when they learn the book is theirs to keep makes the project worthwhile.
