April 24, 2016

Samantha Elizabeth Santiago had a 4.53 grade point average (GPA) at Fontainebleau High School finishing in the top 1% of her class.   Samantha has been accepted and will attend Louisiana Tech University.  She plans to major in Cyber Engineering.  While in high school, Samantha worked several jobs to save and pay for her college education. She worked at Pelican Park, Fleur de Lis Event Center, Mandeville Soccer Club and tutoring.

 

Her high GPA qualifies for the Louisiana TOPS Honors Program.

Samantha is involved in many high school activities and community services:  National Honor Society, National Hispanic Honor Society, Key Club, Special Olympics, Abita Earthfest, TOPSoccer, Big Branch Work Day and Play, Keep Mandeville Beautiful, Bible School and other activities and community services.
Samantha lives in Mandeville, Louisiana with her parents, Efren Santiago, retired from the US Air Force, and Julie Santiago, formerly in the US Air Force and now a Registered Nurse at Fairway Medical Center.   Samantha has a thirteen year old sister, Emma Santiago. 
 
 

 
 Michael Eric Rodehorst has a 4.65 GPA while taking advanced placement dual enrolled college and honors courses throughout high school. Mr. Rodehorst will graduate at the top of his class of over 200 seniors at Lakeshore High School.    Michael plans to attend LSU and major in Chemical Engineering. 
He lives in Lacombe with his parents:  Brian Rodehorst employed at Windsor Court Hotel and Patricia Darby Rodehorst, a Nurse at Slidell Memorial Hospital.  He has a brother Matthew Rodehorst, 19, attending Northshore Technical Community College. 
While attending Lakeshore High School, Michael was President of Key Club, Secretary of National Honor Society, Lakeshore High Ambassador, on the Homecoming court, selected for Boys State and was active in sports:  Varsity Soccer Co-Captain and on the Cross-country track.   He was selected for Louisiana H.S. Athletic Association All-State Soccer Composite team, Defensive Soccer player of the year, as well as many other honors and recognition.
Further, Michael  was active in Community Service:  volunteering with Slidell Memorial Hospital, Junior Olympics, Covington Food Bank, Lakeview Regional Hospital, Breakfast with Santa,  the Lakeshore H.S. Community Christmas Dinner, Global Youth Service Day, Church grounds cleaning,  and tutored junior high students and other services.

April 26, 2015 - Student selected for Scholarship:

Kylee Pitre had a 3.57 GPA at Fontainebleau High School, while taking several honors classes and Dual-Enrollment courses at Southeastern Louisiana University. Ms. Pitre qualifies for the Louisiana TOPS scholarship program and plans to major in business at Louisiana State University.


Miguel Black is a graduate of Northlake Christian High School. He finished with a 3.75 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society. Miguel lives with his mother Gelon Lazard, who works for AT&T as a Network Manager. He has a brother (Darian age 22) and sister (Kara age 19) in college and a younger sister (Allynah age 7) at home. Miguel plans to attend Mississippi College and has an academic scholarship. He loves football and plans to walk-on to the football team as a defensive back. While in high school Miguel was active in Football and Track as well as Habitat for Humanities, mentoring elementary students and a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and attended Boys State. In his written narrative, Miguel wrote "My mother never missed any of my events.  They say that a woman can not raise a "man", well my mother has, and I will be a man that she will be proud of".

Whitney Bouey and Margaret "Meg" Robinson were selected for $10,000 Rotary college scholarships from the Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club’s Scholarship Foundation.   Rotary Club President, Steve Saux, announced the students will be honored at the Rotary Club’s 16th annual “Sunday with Scholars” fundraiser, Sunday evening, April 27, 2014 at Beau Chene Country Club.

Whitney Bouey has a 3.8 grade point average (GPA) at Mandeville  High School while taking several honors classes.   Whitney has been accepted and  plans to attend Louisiana State University ( LSU ).  She plans to major in Industrial Engineering and minor in Spanish.   Whitney's high GPA qualifies her for the Louisiana Tops Honors scholarship program.  She lives in Mandeville, Louisiana with her grandparents, Marguerite Stein and Ray Stein.
 
Margaret "Meg" Robinson has a 4.52 GPA while taking advanced placement, dual enrolled college, and honors courses throughout high school.  Meg will graduate near the top of her class of approximately 200 seniors at Lakeshore High School. She lives with her mother, Renee' Robinson, in Lacombe, Louisiana. Meg qualifies for the Louisiana Tops Honors scholarship program and will attend Louisiana State University where she plans to major in Industrial Engineering.

Awarded $10,000 Rotary Scholarships

                                

Kari Ousterhout and Serena Sossi were selected for $10,000 Rotary scholarships from the Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club’s Scholarship foundation.   Rotary Club President, Sandra G. Gibson, announced the students will be honored at the Rotary Club’s 15th annual “Sunday with Scholars” fundraiser, Sunday evening, April 28, at Beau Chene Country Club  

Chairman of the Rotary Scholarship program, John Caulking said    “Mr. John Bryan’s Rotary selection committee evaluated 45 applications from area students.  Dozens of students were competitive.    Rotary International is the World’s largest service organization, so we look for students who have performed community services and for whom this scholarship will make the biggest financial Impact.  Over $ 230,000 to 28 area students have been awarded since 1998.”  

 

Kari Ousterhout has over a 4.6 GPA, taking gifted and honors courses. Kari will graduate at the top of her class of approximately 400 seniors at Mandeville High School (MHS) . Ms. Ousterhout  lives with her mother, Pamela Ousterhout, CPA at the Youth Service Bureau.

Kari has received scholarships from and will attend the University of Southern Mississippi  this fall.  She plans to major in nursing. While achieving academic excellence, Kari also works part-time at Texas Road House.

Kari has been a member of the MHS varsity Basketball Team ( four years,) Student Senate, Youth Choir, Tri Theta service sorority, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and  Big Brother/Big Sister Program. Additionally, Kari's community service includes Keep Mandeville Beautiful, helping special needs children through  Illuminate, Yes We Can!, and Nite-Life,  community service with the National Honor Society, and other organizations such as the Choir, World Changers, and Senior Citizen Christmas.    She has served on several mission trips and has also worked at fund raisers with car washes and bingos.

Kari received over a dozen high school awards including in-part: Composite Academic All-State Athlete, Most Valuable Defensive Basketball player, All-District, and Varsity Co-Captain, Most Outstanding Algebra, PE and Business Computer Applications Student, Senior Homecoming Maid,  and honors at iterary rallies,  Leadership Council in Tri Theta, and was voted as the Friendliest Female of her class.

 

 Serena Sossi has over a 3.8 grade point average (GPA) at Fontainebleau High School.   Ms. Sossi has been accepted and received a scholarships from several colleges: Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, Louisiana College, and Centenary.  Serena Sossi plans to major in Pre-Med and to continue on to Medical School.   Serena was born in Milan Italy and speaks fluent Italian.     Ms. Sossi does considerable community service.  She volunteers at day care for her church, is a trainee with EMT at local festivals, volunteers at Habitat for Humanity and seeks opportunities to help in nurseries when needed. 

 While in High School, Serena has been a member of: National Honor Society, National Hispanic Honor society, International Club, Band  (9th grade,) track ( 9th and 10th,) and  Ski club 10th.

   Serena wants to become a medical doctor:  As a child, Serena lived in Italy.    " My parents traveled, to India . They told me stories of the thousands of homeless living in the street and on roofs when it flooded, and of little children just running around with nowhere to be.  I have been inspired to  become an ophthalmologist  and to build an orphanage and help young Indian children."

Serena lives in Mandeville with her mother, Mari Immerso, who is employed as a computer programmer at the United States Department of Agriculture in New Orleans.   Serena's Father, Francesco Sossi, lives in Italy.   , Serena has worked part time,  to help her single mother with expenses,  and currently works after school at T.J.MAXX.

 

 

Rotary Selection Committee Chairman, John Bryan said  that  "There are so many outstanding students that it gets tougher every year to select only two students for Rotary scholarships."  The Rotary Club currently funds eight  $10,000 college scholarships to local  students:  

The Rotary Scholarship Foundation is an IRS recognized 501 C (3) tax charity and donations are deductible for Federal and State income tax purposes.  The Mandeville Rotary club is a 100% volunteer organization with no paid employees.  The Rotary Scholarship Foundation has no administrative fees,  All funds are applied to the student scholarships and the fundraiser cost.   Anyone  interested in Rotary or donating to the Rotary Scholarship Program may call  Rotary Scholarship Chairman John Caulking at 985 845-4765.

April, 2012: Two Mandeville High School seniors known for their volunteerism have earned money for their college educations.

 

 

The Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club has selected Alissa Keegan and Mason Williams from Mandeville High School to receive $10,000 scholarships. They were chosen based on their academic performance, community service and financial need.

Alissa Keegan and Mason Williams, along with previous scholarship winners, will be recognized at the Rotary Club’s annual "A Sunday with Scholars" on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Beau Chene Country Club. The event is a fundraiser for the Rotary’s Scholarship Fund, which has awarded more than 24 scholarships - totaling $180,000 - in the past 12 years.

"The scholarship really does add to the quality of life on the north shore," Caulking said. "About half of our recipients come back to this area."
